“The bags of groceries were more than what we anticipated. On top of that, they were qualitatively structured, so that the bag benefited any type of household! That in and of itself personifies Bread for the CITY. With your support, we distributed 94 bags of food to families, seniors, and disabled individuals. You can imagine the impact this effort had on folks.”
“ I called for food delivery and Bread for the City blessed me the next day. A box full of beautiful, good food and supplies. My heart is so full of joy knowing that someone cares. I’m full of tears of joy right now. Thank you so much.”
Since July, Bread for the City has been grieving the loss of our long-time chief operating officer, Jeannine Sanford. To those who knew her, Jeanine was a caring mentor. Throughout her 30-year tenure, she always offered her time, provided advice, and advocated for those in need as a well-known pillar in the legal services and pro bono community.
We unite with Jeannine’s family, her friends, the legal access community, and her Bread for the City loved ones in honoring her legacy as we say goodbye.
As of November of 2021, DC has reached its 200th homicide, which has been reported to be the highest point in 18 years.
As a person who has lost family members, former classmates and peers to gun violence, it is crucial that we allocate resources and take preventive measures to eliminate the violence within our communities.
